Alpha Centauri

alpha centauri constellation

We all know that there are many stars in the sky, some small, some large, some close and so far, that even modern telescopes cannot see today. So it is a distant thing to go close to them. Today our modern science has grown so much. But many secrets of this universe are yet to be known. There are so many big stars in this universe that the sun also appears like a point in front of them. Today we will learn about such a star which is closest to us. The name of this star is Alpha Centauri. So let's know about some interesting facts about it.

Alpha Centauri

1). When you see Alpha centauri from Earth, it appears as a star, but it is not a star, but it is a star system of 3 stars, due to the distance a star is visible.

2). This is the nearest star system to our solar system, it is about 4.3 light years away from us. (40 million million kilometers away)

3). It is ranked 4th among the brightest shining stars visible from the earth.

4). Its absolute revolution is (5.71) .

The three stars of the Alpha Centauri star system are named Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B, and Proxima Centauri, respectively.

A). Alpha Centauri A

1). It is the largest star of the Alpha Centauri Star System. The mass of this star is only 10% more than the mass of the Sun. While its diameter is 1.23 more than our Sun.

2). This star is yellowish white like our sun, its age is about 4.75 billion years, which is 250 million years more than the Sun.

3). The brightness of this star is 1.52 times higher than our Sun.

4). Alpha Centauri completes one round on its axis in 22 days.

5). Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B look like a single star when viewed from a small telescope.

6). This star is situated in the Centaurus constellation.

B). Alpha Centauri B

1). It is the second star after Alpha Centauri which is slightly smaller than our Sun.

2). The mass of Alpha Centauri B is 0.91 times that of our Sun and 0.87 times its diameter and about half in brightness.

3). This star completes one round on its axis in 41 days.

4). The age of all the three stars of Alpha Centauri is about 485 crores years, which is about 25 crores years more than the age of our Sun, is it not amazing!

5). Alpha Centauri B is orange yellow in color.

6). Relative Record of this star + 1.33.

According to scientists, a non-solar planet is orbiting around this star, they have named it Alpha Centauri BB. The size of this planet is equal to that of the Earth (mass and diameter are equal).

It is only 40 lakh kilometers away from its Sun. Due to its proximity, its temperature is very high. According to scientists, its surface temperature is higher than about 1200 degrees Celsius, that is, the stones will be like lava.

Due to its proximity, it can complete its star rotation in only 32 days.

C). Proxima Centauri

1). It is the third star of the Alpha Centauri star system, and is also known as the Alpha Centauri C.

2). It is the nearest star to our Sun. Whose distance from our sun is only 4.25 is light years.

3). The rest of the two stars is 4.37 light years away from our Sun.

4). Proxima Centauri is a red Red Dwarf, our sun will also become a red dwarf star one day. Proxima Centauri can only be seen with binoculars. It was discovered in 1915.

5). It is the smallest star in the Alpha Centauri star system, due to which it cannot be seen with naked eyes.

6). The diameter of this star is only 0.14 times the diameter of the Sun. Its diameter is only about 2 lakh kilometers (The diameter of our Sun is 13 lakhs 91 thousand KM.)

7). Talking about its mass, its mass is only about the 7th of the Sun. You will be surprised to know that despite being small, the density of Proxima Centauri is 40 times higher than our Sun.

On 24 August 2014, scientists discovered a planet circling Proxima Centauri. Scientists are now exploring the possibilities of life on that planet. There is also a fact that this planet is similar to Earth and is at the right distance from its star, the distance on which the water resides in a liquid form, scientists have named it Proxima.
